When you are at the Home screen, you have three choices – “plan your trip”, “navigate to” and “settings”. Because all the submenus are also easy to use and navigate, you don’t really need the user guide.
The great part of this unit is that you have 4 options – 1. enter an address, 2. search for a point of interest, 3. select a destination on the map or 4. choose a travel goal from your saved destinations or navigation history. Another great feature is that it is hands free via the optional voice instruction guide that works very well and is capable of .1 miles advance warning of turns. As detailed in the setup, you can choose to display your map in 2D or 3D mode. Both modes have clear displays of where you are, your expected destination and has a big red arrow that will tell you when to turn. If you miss the turn, the unit will quickly adjust your position so you can get back on your course track.
The X-930 comes pre-loaded with a huge list of restaurants, parks, businesses and shops so you can find the nearest Applebee’s or Wal-Marts. It lists major and local stores alike but you can also download additional points of interest.

The one drawback is when you must use the keyboard. It is not a standard keyboard, but rather the alphabet in alphabetical order which can be somewhat awkward, since most people these days are used to a regular keyboard. As you can imagine, this can be a bit slow going. And you can’t make a typo without have to erase all your letters following the actual typo. The system isn’t able to recognize typos and match to the right city, so this is a bit of a drawback.

The X970 unit is a bit more refined than the X-930 model. This unit features text-to-speech which announces street names instead of the generic “turn right in half a mile”. This is a great feature because it keeps your eyes on the road instead of glancing at the screen to verify where to turn.
Another upgraded feature is that when you search for points of interests like restaurants or hotels, you can directly call them by just tapping their phone number. Also the X-970 features a web 2.0 interface that allows you to plan your trips online and then download them to your unit.
